After registration of their child's birth, if parents wish to alter or add to the name of the child, they may apply at any of the Births Registries. However, no addition/alteration to the name of a child shall be made in the birth entries after the child has reached the age of 11.
For addition/alteration of the name of a child, the presence of the child is not required. If parents want to obtain a certified copy of a birth entry with addition/alteration of the child’s name, a prescribed fee will be charged.
Application for addition / alteration of child's name can be submitted to any of the births registries.

In applying for addition / alteration to the name of a child, the parent must attend in person to make a declaration and produce the child’s birth certificate.
It normally takes 25 minutes to process an application for addition / alteration of child’s name. A certified copy of a birth entry with addition / alteration of child’s name will be available after 9 working days (working days denote Monday to Friday excluding General Holidays) at a prescribed fee.
No fee is payable if the addition / alteration to the child's name is made within the period of 42 days from the birth. After 42 days, a fee of HK$425 will be charged. If a certified copy of a birth entry with addition / alteration of the child's name is required, HK$140 will be charged for each copy.
A certified copy of a birth entry with addition / alteration of child’s name will be available after 9 working days (working days denote Monday to Friday excluding General Holidays) at a prescribed fee.
