Immigration Department follows up traffic accident happened in Nansha of Guangdong Province

26 September 2017

In response to a Hong Kong group tour which encountered traffic accident in Nansha of Guangdong Province last night (September 25), the Hong Kong Immigration Department (ImmD) had immediately contacted the tour agency concerned and the Travel Industry Council of Hong Kong, to understand the situation and follow-up via the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Guangdong (GDETO).  43 Hong Kong residents were involved in the incident, where two of them died and nine were injured and hospitalised for treatment.

Members of the Immigration Division of GDETO had arrived in the hospitals concerned to offer assistance, and also urged the relevant Mainland authorities and hospitals to provide all necessary assistance and follow-up actions.  ImmD is trying to contact the family members of the deceased and the injured Hong Kong residents and provide assistance.  Other Hong Kong residents will return to Hong Kong later today (September 26).  ImmD will act according to their will and the situation to render assistance or arrange them to be hospitalised for further observation and treatment.

ImmD and the Immigration Division of GDETO will continue to closely liaise with the injured residents, family of the deceased and the tour agency to render practicable assistance and follow up the case.  Hong Kong residents travelling outside Hong Kong who need assistance may call the 24-hour hotline of the Assistance to Hong Kong Residents Unit of ImmD at (852) 1868.
