11 April 2015

Regarding media enquiries on the Taichung Metro construction site accident, the Immigration Department (ImmD) today (April 11) responded as follows:

After learning the accident, the ImmD had taken the initiative to contact the Hong Kong Economic, Trade and Cultural Office (Taiwan) (HKETCO) for more information immediately. ImmD obtained further updated information today, confirming, for the time being, that one deceased is a Hong Kong resident who migrated to Taiwan some years ago. ImmD had contacted the deceased's family to render practical assistance according to their wish.

ImmD will continue to keep contact with HKETCO to closely monitor the situation and render assistance to the family.

Hong Kong residents traveling outside Hong Kong who need assistance may call the 24-hour hotline of the Assistance to Hong Kong Residents Unit of ImmD at (852) 1868.
