Online Pre-arrival Registration for Taiwan Residents

21 August 2012

The Immigration Department announced today (August 21) the implementation details of the online Pre-arrival Registration for Taiwan Residents, which will be implemented on September 1.

Chinese residents of Taiwan who were born in Taiwan or were born outside Taiwan but have been admitted to Hong Kong as Taiwan residents before are eligible for the Pre-arrival Registration to visit Hong Kong provided that they are not in possession of any travel document issued by other authorities outside Taiwan (except for the Mainland Travel Permit for Taiwan Residents (commonly known as "Tai Bao Zheng") and the Entry Permit and iPermit issued by the Immigration Department).

Eligible Taiwan residents may submit Pre-arrival Registration through the e-Service platform Pre-arrival Registration for Taiwan Residents (www.gov.hk/par) at the GovHK website free of charge. After the required information has been received, the computer system will process the registration and display the registration result instantly. Successful registrants shall print on their own the "Notification Slip for Pre-arrival Registration for Taiwan Residents" generated by the system on A4-size blank white paper.

Each Pre-arrival Registration is valid for two months and good for two entries to Hong Kong with a stay up to 30 days as a visitor on each landing, provided the registrant meets the normal immigration requirements. Registrants shall present the aforesaid Notification Slip and a travel document valid for re-entry to Taiwan for at least six months for visiting Hong Kong.

If permission to land is granted, registrants will be issued with a landing slip containing their name, Taiwan identity card number and conditions of stay in Hong Kong. Registrants shall carry the aforesaid Notification Slip, the landing slip and the travel document for re-entry to Taiwan during their stay in Hong Kong as proof of their permitted stay. They are also required to produce these documents upon departure clearance.

An Immigration Department spokesman said, "Pre-arrival Registration is an additional facilitation measure on top of the existing entry arrangements for Taiwan residents for visiting Hong Kong. We believe it will further enhance convenience for Taiwan visitors and contribute to Hong Kong-Taiwan exchanges."

Details of the new arrangement can be found at the e-Service platform Pre-arrival Registration for Taiwan Residents (www.gov.hk/par) at the GovHK website.
